Where there is a need...

When you think of an animal rescue, dogs and cats immediately come to most people's minds. There are rescues for virtually all types of animals, large and small, especially dogs, cats, and livestock.  There are also several guinea pig, rabbit, ferret, reptile, and bird rescues. But what happens to the smallest members of our pet population?  The hamsters, gerbils, mice, and other small mammals?  What about the tiny exotic pet such as the hermit crab?

I have often heard the phrase, "See a need, fill a need."  I regularly search sites like Craigslist and Petfinder to look at the often-forgotten tiniest of pets needing homes.  I definitely see a need.

The truth is; usually the pets who cost the least are given the least attention in terms of husbandry and medical attention.  Owners are often ill-educated about their care.

My goal:

My goal is to provide people with information pertaining to the smallest of pets, such as rodents, and small mammals like the hedgehog and sugar glider.  I also have a special place for hermit crabs and their invertebrate like, so I will be adding links for their care as well.

For the people of Texas, I would like to provide the service of rescue and rehoming their pets.  While it is impossible, unfeasible, and irresponsible for me to take in everything that needs a home, I will take in and rehome small animals as space and time allows.  In some very special cases, I will also list other people's pets available for adoption on my site; termed 'offsite' adoptions.

I hope that you enjoy my site and refer me to others.  I welcome all small animal rescues to send me their banners so that I may link you here.

Have a wonderful day!

Pet of the Week - August 13th

I have decided to showcase a new animal each week from the Petfinder.com website.

Meet "Ginger".  Ginger is estimated to be 2 years old this October.  She appears to be an argente (in color).  Ginger can be adopted through the Texas Rustlers Guinea Pig Rescue located in Double Oak, TX.  Click here to see Ginger's Petfinder page and to meet other adoptable animals!
